Getting to know Persefoni: Meet Caitlin Kinney

1. And you may ask yourself, "Well... how did I get here?" (Tell us your journey?)

Like many young people, the climate crisis has defined my life since I could remember. As a teenager I learnt about the harrowing impacts of animal agriculture, fast fashion, and much of the consumerism I had so often normalized living in the US. It was like a veil had lifted. After graduating high school, I moved to the UK to study Psychology at Durham University, where I researched which factors were the biggest psychological barriers to pro-environmental behavior. The answer? Confusion about where to start.

I first joined Persefoni as an intern in June 2020, and when I was offered the opportunity to join full time, it was a no brainer! Persefoni provides the solution I researched in my studies – a framework which provides clear and accountable climate knowledge.

2. And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile. (What do you do at Persefoni?)

I am the coordinator of our Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB), our group of advisors who give us priceless guidance. My focus is helping plan our monthly meetings and ensuring our SAB’s insights make their way to our product and climate solution teams. I also help copyedit and publish some of Persefoni’s outbound content, including this ‘Once in a Lifetime’ series and our weekly newsletter. Both of which I am incredibly proud to be a part of.

3. And you may ask yourself, "Where does that highway go to?" (What are your hopes for your time at Persefoni?

When I first interned here, we were a small group of around 15 employees. Since then, Persefoni has accomplished leaps and bounds more than anything I could have believed was possible in such a short time. I hope we continue being the leading climate accounting platform and providing investors and companies with data they can trust. We make something tangible out of a very overwhelming topic, and I hope our name will become even more mainstream.

4. And you may say to yourself, "My God! What have I done?" (Why is Persefoni a great home for you?)

I am continuously amazed by all the wonderful people we attract to work with us. It is so lovely to be surrounded by individuals who understand the importance of the climate issue. Climate risk is truly a uniting call of our time, and every day there is such a buzzing energy here at Persefoni.

5. And you may find yourself in another part of the world... (Tell us about your life/hobbies away from work?)

When I am not working, I spend a lot of time cooking, gardening, and listening to 60s/70s rock music. My dream is to have a massive garden where I can cook all the fruit & veggies I grow! I also love street photography/portraiture and trying local cuisines where I travel. I am still a massive psychology nerd and keep up to date with the latest research on meditation, sleep, and consciousness. My degree taught me just how much we still do not know about the brain. It is truly fascinating!
