Getting Ready for Assurance under California’s SB 253

California’s Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (SB 253) establishes new greenhouse gas (GHG) disclosure requirements for companies with over $1 billion in annual revenue doing business in the state. As the law phases in, organizations will be required to report their GHG emissions and ultimately obtain third-party assurance — beginning with limited assurance over Scopes 1 and 2 and transitioning to reasonable assurance in later years, with limited assurance for Scope 3 to follow.
