ClimateTech Startup Persefoni Wins 2021 SXSW Pitch Competition for Intelligent Carbon Tracking Software

Article Overview

Tempe, Ariz., March 22, 2021 -- Persefoni, an intelligent carbon footprint management and reporting platform for enterprises and investors, today announced it was selected as the winner of the Enterprise & Smart Data category at the 13th annual SXSW Pitch® event. Persefoni was recognized as the best technological innovation for its category-creating ClimateTech SaaS platform, which helps large enterprises and institutional investors calculate, report, and reduce their carbon footprints.

The 2021 SXSW Pitch event, held during SXSW Online 2021, featured 40 startups selected to pitch their technological innovations to a panel of top industry experts, entrepreneurs, and investors live in front of a virtual audience. The judges selected one winner from each of the competition’s eight distinctive categories, ranging from artificial intelligence to health to smart data to wearables and wellbeing. Persefoni was awarded the top prize in the Enterprise & Smart Data category, which highlights innovations that increase productivity for businesses and/or individuals by simplifying informational data through new workflows and analytics.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized as a winner of the marquee SXSW Pitch competition and join the ranks of other winners like Siri, which was acquired by Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) in 2010; PartPic, acquired by Amazon, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN); and small business lending and FinTech leader Kabbage,” said Kentaro Kawamori, CEO and co-founder of Persefoni. “Persefoni is bridging the data and technology gap in sustainability reporting to help companies of all sizes take meaningful action against climate change, and we are thrilled to be recognized by leading tech experts and top investors for our innovation in data and analytics.”

As companies worldwide strive to fight climate change by curbing carbon emissions, they lack the tools for calculating and reporting organizational carbon footprints with the same confidence that they manage their financial transactions. Persefoni provides companies across all industries and sectors a detailed picture of their carbon footprint to improve understanding of how and where to systematically lower the environmental impact of operations. Persefoni is the first to connect the entire sustainability disclosure and reporting cycle via an AI-native carbon footprint management platform. The platform integrates thousands of data points across the business value chain to calculate organizational carbon footprints in real-time, which to date has been a largely manual process. With advanced analytics and AI models built into the Persefoni platform, organizations receive data-driven insights that suggest optimization opportunities for future planning and forecasting.

"Now in our 13th year of programming, Pitch continues to showcase the best technology from around the world, proving our dedication to highlighting today’s most forward-thinking movers and shakers," said Chris Valentine, SXSW Pitch event Producer. “Adapting to a digital experience can come with unexpected challenges, but this year’s event was a big success, and we’re thrilled to recognize each of the winners within this mature class of startups.”

Launched in August 2020, Persefoni is rapidly accelerating the ClimateTech market segment as a leading provider for large enterprises and institutional investors seeking to better understand the most effective way to measure and reduce their carbon footprint. The company is already working with leading investors like global Private Equity firm TPG to manage the carbon footprint of its $85 billion dollar portfolio and is on track for significant expansion this year.

“We’re a diverse, global team bound by the common cause of fighting climate change, and we’ve brought together some of the best people from both the software and sustainability worlds,” said Kawamori. “What gets measured gets done, and Persefoni is continuing to build and equip organizations with the necessary tools for understanding, and ultimately reducing, the environmental impact of their operations.”
